Actually, i did get a new welder this year, and when the other guys started complaining they bought 2 more welders.
we also got a robotic arm cell to do alot of the programmable welding!
If they fire my boss for too much spending, I'll send him your way!

Ive never had any fittings or pipe crack on me yet. 5p on the root hot and fill, and 70 or 80+ on the cap. Using a weed burner to prep works good for me. The 70+ is still pliable enough in the cold. Fortunately most of my stuff is going 6+ feet under ground as well. Every tie in is doped, taped, insulated, and heat traced to keep things from freezing from the inside out.

I know that the wind is also a serious factor in the temp of the steel. Only on jobs that are absolutely imparative to get done will I go out at very extreme temps. If I do, I write in caps on my invoices - " No work guaranteed at extreme temperatures". The clients are the ones that make the judgement call after that..........

Guess I responded to the wrong thread...oh well.
