The guys that need to know about the Rig Yard Already Know where it is. It is in Arkansas. If you would have read more of my previous post other than the ones you want to argue about, You would also know where it is. As far as Challengeing me... You will need to get a few more years under your belt before that will happen. Alot of the times you seem to "chime in" is when Myself and some one who actually KNOWS me is pokeing fun at each other. As far as my Test goes. For the ONE MILLIONTH TIME ON THIS FORUM, AS I HAVE POSTED BEFORE. 1/2" Plate Test 6010 Root 7018 fill and cap. Grind the back out and weld with 7018 ALL VERTICAL Pipe Test 6" 6g 6010 root 7018 fill and cap.  As far as why I dont respond to your questions...... I feel like you think you are a know it all who likes to stir up SH*T. So.... I ignore you. I do really wish you would show up in my yard though.
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 11-09-2009 23:59
It wouldnt matter if I did show up in your yard cause I could make the best weld you have ever seen and you would find a reason not to pass it. So it would be a waste of my time and yours. Plus I dont have a Vantage welder so i wouldnt make the cut.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-10-2009 00:09
Well #1 as far as making the best weld I have ever seen ? Doubt it ! You would have to be able to outweld Rick Harnish First ! He IS one of the best I have ever seen. The day you can outweld him You MIGHT impress me. Until Then................

Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-10-2009 00:28

Parent - - By 3.2 Inspector (***) Date 11-09-2009 16:39
So if you can't weld when you start, there is no way you will ever learn?
Dont make welding into something which it is not, all it really is, is a matter of routine.

3.2
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-09-2009 19:03
Routine or not. I have seen Plenty of guys who have tried for years. They still dont get it. Some people just dont have the Hand to Eye Co-ordination that it takes to weld. Like flying a Helicopter. They say if you can Rub your stomach while Patting your head, then you can fly a Helicopter. You would be suprised at the people who can not do that
Parent - - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 11-10-2009 00:17
my opinion would be that if u practice enough and dont just give up anybody can weld i think all it takes is practice and the will to get it right but nobody asked for my opinion so i wont give it
Parent - By johnnyh (***) Date 11-10-2009 00:28
Are you sure you won't give your opinion?
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 11-10-2009 00:41
Hey Donkey it sounds like we need to take welding lessons from Rick.
Parent - - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 11-10-2009 00:55
rick is a good welder i just dont know why cactus would be telling you that you never said you were the best but since he brought it up ive seen ricks welds they are nice as well as alot of welders ive seen  actually people who weld pipe for a living normally make nice welds or they dont have a job . PS  ok82 ive also seen your welds they are nice as well i could name a few more people on here who i have had the pleasure of working beside but ill make it short and say there are a lot of good welders on this forum .
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-10-2009 01:39
There are MANY GREAT welders on this forum. If you are not sure why I told him that then you should read his post again. Then read the post I made and put it into context. And BTW Rick doen't only weld pipe.
Parent - - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 11-10-2009 02:04
if i came across like he ONLY welded pipe my bad ps cactus since ur always on top of my spelling skills you forgot to put an (S) in the word doesnt
Parent - By tnhnt (***) Date 11-10-2009 05:49
and you forgot you apausterfie between your "n" and your "T"...  LOL.... Just screwing with you!!!
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-10-2009 12:05
I did ! I should have used spell check !
Parent - - By argoncowboy (**) Date 11-09-2009 03:10
You have to admit though, welding high pressure pipe pays better than hiring out as a structural welder.
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-09-2009 13:39
I have always made more building rigs. There is alot of structural as well as high pressure pipe
Parent - By Superflux (****) Date 11-09-2009 16:29
I'd have to agree with Cactus on this...
1) Either you can weld or you can't .... 100% Right On!!!
2) Most of the "BIG" jobs I've been on, (refineries, powerplants) except for a couple where the "alloy pipewelders" had 3 or more certs, the person welding Uni-strut for the "Sparkies" made the same as the B31.1 and B31.3 pipe welders.
3) and finally, When I ran a rig truck, the rate was the same for "red iron" as it was for pipe.

Stories of the Alaska Pipeline and Americans going abroad in the 50's and 60's of fortunes made in the Middle East still circulate.
In a way, the "PipeDream" of fortunes to be made being a pipeliner or rig welder embodies the American Dream. Starting your own business, being independent, travelling across the country is somewhat analogous to the 1849 Gold Rush. It is this adventurous spirit and the resultant success stories that made America what it is and keeps the "Dream Alive"!

Hell, I wanna be a Pipeliner when I grow up!
Parent - - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 10-30-2009 02:07
i wonder why welding a round green plate pays so much better than a flat rusty plate hummmm thats weird
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 10-30-2009 02:11
I wouldn't be so sure about that
Parent - - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 10-30-2009 02:20
your not sure about what cacto that ur machine is an overpriced generator or are you not sure if you know how to weld pipe or not take a deep breath calm down im sure some farmer will need his brush hog welded an we all know your 4 sure the man for the job
Parent - By FixaLinc (****) Date 11-03-2009 20:04
I think most farmers could weld themselves faster and better than arguing or dealing with a donkey !

Parent - By o-beamkid (*) Date 11-08-2009 00:44
I thought so
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 11-07-2009 21:02
the pay rate depends on who you work for not what you weld.
Parent - - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 11-08-2009 01:34
the pay rate has to do with what i tell them it cost to have me weld on their pipeline i make my own deals it never depends on who i work for if they dont pay my rate i dont weld no exceptions i dont know how it works in drilling rigs i never have nor never will
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 11-08-2009 05:25
every job ive been on the rate was set not a different rate for every welder
Parent - By DONKEY PUNCH Date 11-08-2009 06:14
yeah they try to pay everyone the same but there is always room for negotiation you just got to tell them pay me whst i want or im gone some times i have to leave right after passing the test cause they dont bite but someone always does somewhere i just wont work for anything less than what i got my rates at just my way of doing it doesnt work for everyone something i just started doing one day seems to work good most wont run u off same day u pass ur test but every now and then they do and u gota hit the pavement but i never talk money with other welders on jobs cause it just causes problems 4 everyone i dont ask or care what they make none of my buisness nor is what i make their buisness
Parent - - By johnnyh (***) Date 10-30-2009 01:02

Last I checked they it wasn't called round plate welding for a reason.... If ya wanna go there why don't we call it ore welding then cause it all comes from the same place......but the last time I checked it was the finished product that counts!
Parent - By Tommyjoking (****) Date 10-30-2009 05:42
I have been welding in some form or fashion for 24 yrs.  Vessels, rig work to lasers to aerospace........Ummm I KNOW!!! I could not just show up buy a book and go pipelining.  Not to say I could not do it, but I am not conceded or stupid enough to think I could just stroll in and start walking the dog and racking up check.  So I know where the intention of the post is coming from.
Parent - - By ssbn727 (*****) Date 10-30-2009 06:17
Has anyone in here ever heard of both seamless as well as welded pipe??? Because that what it's all about friends when it comes to pipe... In other words, there are two types of manufactured pipe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipe_%28material%29

Enjoy the read fellas!!! ;) ;) ;)

Respectfully,
Henry
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 10-30-2009 11:37
What is your point here Henry? The whole point of the conversation was about the shape of pipe and plate not how the pipe is put together.
Parent - By waccobird (****) Date 10-30-2009 11:49
okwelder82
The initial Thread was about whether new welders should have to start at the bottom and work there way into being Pipeliners or not.
This string that has derailed the rug is about pipe just being a plate.
Parent - By ssbn727 (*****) Date 10-30-2009 16:33
My point is that pipe is not just made out plate rolled into the shape of pipe, then welded together... Some, if not most were only talking about pipe being made from plate only and I wanted to remind those that there are two ways that pipe is manufactured - Understand - CAPECHE??? PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!

Respectfully,
Henry

I've  done structual welding in NYC, now I'm welding pipe. It's all good.
I just like to watch that pretty light, like a moth to the flame.

I could have gone the rest of my life without than information..

Why anybody would want there identity tied to that kind of imagry escapes me.
Parent - - By jwright650 (*****) Date 10-30-2009 12:12
Lawrence,
I tried to clean it up a bit.

Guys keep the jokes and references G rated... will ya?
Parent - - By Lawrence (*****) Date 10-30-2009 13:15 Edited 10-30-2009 13:17
Oh John I wasn't barking about Henry's post..

Now that I know what the guy's handle actually means... well

Why people try to thrust perverse imagry on others just by their presence is disturbing.

I guess that is the intent.
