Good day,

Does anyone have experience with welding the root pass in pipes with E10018-D2 electrodes?  We are welding AISI 4130 class 75K min yield.  Some of our existing procedures (for shop welding) use GTAW (ER100S-G) for the root pass and SMAW (E10018-D2) for the fill and cap.  We are now looking at qualifing a WPS for welding outside on an offshore drilling rig where it's usually very windy hence we would like to weld the root pass with SMAW instead of GTAW.  We can get 2.5mm and 3.2mm dia. E10018-D2.  Our new procedure will be qualified on 4" pipe in 6G position.

PS   E10016-D2 is not available in the brand (Metrode) we intend to use.

Thanks
