Up Topic Welding Industry / ASME Codes / Electrical characteristic on PQR acc. to ASME IX

Dear all,
I am reviewing my supplier's PQRs.

I find that they recorded Amps by a range of "140±20" and Volts by "22±2V" on one PQR of a multi-pass welding groove joint. What's more, no travel speed was recorded but "heat input=329-591J/cm" was recorded in "welding technique".

It looks very strange, I think it is not acceptable. Please give me your ideas.

Thanks.

Welcome to ASME.

Voltage, amperage, and travel speed are considered to be nonessential variables, as such they do not have to be recorded on the PQR.

When heat input is required for notch toughness, those variables are to calculate the heat input. If you know the equation for heat input, you can derive the travel speed.

Q = (I x E x 60)/V or   volts x amps x 60 / travel speed.

Best regards - Al
