Up Topic Welding Industry / ASME Codes / dissimilar procedure/qual question

Hello everyone i have a question about a dissimilar weld procedure we currently have. I have a P1 to P1 with 309 filller metal procedure. With this procedure could a welder qualify with this and be able to weld P1 to P1 with say ER70S-2 and also be qualified to run 304(P8 i believe) to 304 with 316 filler? I am getting mixed responses from many different people. To me a different P number suggests a change of a essential variable and that it doesn't comply.  thanks and i appreciate any positive feedback that i can get.

He could qualify to make those welds provided all of the filler metals you refer to are for GTAW (F-6)

He would of course need a qualified procedure to make the production welds.

If you follow all of the P-number requirements, you will find out that for performance, substitutions are allowed. P1 qualifies P1 hrough P11, P3x, P4x base metals.

Can you identify a page or section number for the P1 through P11 range for performance? I see QW-423.

I also have WPS's requiring P1 to P1 and another for P8 to P8. Can I use a P1 to P1 test for the WPQR so someone can weld both?

QW-423.1 I believe refers to the range of Pnumbers for performance.

P1 to P1 with 309 filler ?

Maybe you are referring to P8 to P1 (Austenitic Steels to Ferritic Steels) using ER309 filler.

You need a separate WPS for P1 to P1 (without backing gas) and P8 to P8 materials.

Welder qualified to P8 to P1 using ER309 is also qualify to weld P8 to P8 using ER316 filler but not for P1 to P1 without backing gas.
