How do I get on the new forum? I'm tired of seeing all these birthdays and "members" who have absolutely nothing to do with welding. This forum is a watered down version of what was once a great, great forum. What a waste.

Please message me with details.

I guess I need to check in over there too at some point...I have no clue what my username and PW is to log in over there. I still like this one the best judging from the few times that I logged in over there when it was first started. The filing system/thread makes absolutely no sense over there.

I keep thinking that I will sit down and delete out all of those old spam accounts to thin out the huge list of birthdays, but time is never on my side and I'm a scaredy cat...that purge feature can delete way too much stuff if not used correctly. I don't want to grab a bunch of accounts and delete the wrong ones by accident. I need to figure out how to list out the entire banned members list and match it to the accounts and then delete those. The file is HUGE!

Been working on cleaning out many of the spam accounts over here. I put on my big boy pants and used the purge feature that I was so scared of. I found that I can use IP addresses and websites that are listed to find the viagra/cialis spam and boy did I find thousands of accounts with no posts, just accounts with viagra websites listed in the information.

On another note, been over to the new member forum and tried it out some. It seems okay, but I hate the long string of topics all thrown into one.
Another thing that I noticed is that I must have worn out my welcome already as now when I log in I can see the latest topics, but get error messages if I try to enter any of the discussions.

I think they have a glitch over there right now John.

I can log in, but have no access to postings of any sort.  Gives a polite error message.

First noticed last night and it's still of line this morning 6:30 Central

You haven't worn out your welcome...   It's nice to see you there.

Okay, thanks for the confirmation. I figured the moderator or admin had sent me packing since I posted my feelings about Fig 5.4

It is on mine as well. Noticed it when I got up to San Antonio to spend a couple of days relaxing with my wife after the hustle of the new conference.

Have already notified Alfred so they can jump on it asap.

BTW  Brent...   It killed me that we did not get to spend more time together.

Your presentation on the K-Area...  K-Zone... K-1,,,  Or as we have dubbed it internally the "elusive K-spot"  (Think 70's)  has me deep into AISC 341, Chapter N & D1.8...…….   What we learned (My Boss and I) during that presentation was worth the price of the entire week for my team.

I have 30 slides already put together as a "Data Dump" and have two Seminars in already in creative process, combining the lessons from Yourself, Miller and Holdren….

There are some things we are going to jump on here at Enterprise Level, and having my Boss hear these lectures and saying afterwords:   This is a lot like what you've been saying & even the slides look the same as yours...  Is a major validation TO DO MORE OF THE THINGS ON THE SLIDES !!!!!   (instead of just talking about them)

I mentioned this on the other forum, but I got an "OK" from the boss to attend that conference next year. I mentioned to him about the advertised content and that this didn't seem like the big shows where the put all of the newest welding/cutting equipment out for display and seemed like more of an educational conference. I told him that I was saving vacation to attend next year and he "what for? I'll pay you to go next year." Wait!...What?

PTL John,  wish you could have made this one but we can't always get to every conference that comes along.

If we can pull off the quality of speakers on a follow up for next year it will be well worthwhile.

edit: BTW, yes, the booths and presentations were about inspecting and being in business as inspectors.  Auditing, seismic, bolting, k-areas, and much more for the AWS and AISC venues.  Then there were the presentations by ASNT and NACE.  A well rounded program with lots to choose from.  One booth rep said he wasn't sure they would be back as they were more manufacturing (robotics) than inspection.  Even they say a fair amount of booth action and interest.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

That is great Lawrence and though I agree more time together would have been very satisfying, just getting to meet after all these years was really special.  I am honored that my presentations helped especially with your boss.  If you need any other reference confirmations as you work on your own presentations just let me know.

Have a Great Day,  Brent

AWS Membership is required then I imagine you could call them for some help.

Hi Scott,
Just wondering how the new forum is working out for you. Has it gotten any easier to get around over there or is it still a jumbled up mess?
Parent - - By SWN1158 (***) Date 12-14-2018 13:16
From my understanding, an AWS membership is required, which I don't have, so I've never been on it.
Parent - By jwright650 (*****) Date 12-14-2018 15:53
Mandatory membership makes it a useless forum to the average person looking for some help with welding. I suppose it does keep out the spam and riff-raff that I spend loads of time removing. I have spent more than 10 hrs over the past few days going through reviewing accounts with zero posts, at the most have spent 2-5 minutes logged in on the same day as they registered and have links in their profiles to viagra, breast enlargement, real estate purchasing, and various other non-welding related things.

John,
It's not quite as bad as it first was but it is still a far cry from this one. IMHO of course.

At least over here the forums are fairly comprehensible, the last time I visited over there threads seemed to be organized in the time period when they were created or replied to....postings were in no sensible order or filing structure. If you were to search for something, you needed to know when the last time the thread was accessed and replied to. I gave up and just stay over here.
Parent - - By Lawrence (*****) Date 12-14-2018 18:56
That's all true...

But you can cut and paste weld pictures and drawings right into the little box !!!!!

I scan the new forum every day... I can't help myself

It is a good bit more busy than this forum these days...  And there are a lot of interesting things to read....

I give it a qualified thumbs up because I enjoy it, even though all the organizational problems you all have mentioned are very true.

If this had a "like" button, I would push it.
Parent - - By SWN1158 (***) Date 12-14-2018 19:40
John, can you provide the link to the viagra you mentioned? (asking for a friend)    :)
Parent - By jwright650 (*****) Date 12-14-2018 20:22
LOL, I haven't been through all 1500 pages of the user names and accounts yet...I'm pretty certain if you look through the forum user's profiles you will find several links that I haven't cleaned out yet
