Hello

I have only done a few welding procedures to  ASME IX.
I need to do one now for ASTM A519 1020 CW.  The base metal grouping is a P-no. 1  Group 2.  No impacts, no hardness, etc.

My questions are:
1) why is there no min. specified strength in ASME Section IX for this material?
2) I have a PQR / WPS now for P1 material, can I say that my A519 1020 CW is covered under my old PQR / WPS?
3) I have about 6 MTR, one of my MTR just has 1020 CW with no specification on it. It could be AISI, SAE, ASTM, etc., to me it must have a specification or it must be treated as an unlisted material? yes or no.

Thanks

Section IX, QW-420 - Materials listed in Table QW/QB-422 without a minimum specified tensile value shall not be used for the purpose
of groove weld procedure qualification.

I believe the quote from Section IX is relevant to your situation.

Hey Al

Thanks for your reply.

So 1020 CW cannot be used for groove weld procedure qualification.

If I was to use another material with the same P-no and group no. that has a minimum specified tensile strength for groove weld procedure qualification, could I them use the 1020 CW in a groove weld in production?

Regards

hello My name Is Mac Heinrich I am a Welding and Manufacturing student at Mitchell Technical Institute and we have Just finished D1.1 2015 and now we are on ASME Clause 5 out of the API Standard 1104 Twenty-first Edition. My question is that what are the Preheat and postweld heat treatment (PWHT) temperatures in section 5.3.2.13 Its gives you a description but not the minimum and maximum temps. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question
