Hello

Looking for your opinion for this 1018 MTR.  See attachment.

ASTM 1018 MTR - has a spec. of  ASTM A29-03 (A108-99). In ASME sect. IX,  A108 gr. 1018 is listed.

Question:
1) can I use this material as ASTM A108  gr. 1018 for ASME sect. IX?

Thanks

The material may be listed, but physically, the size is insufficient too provide the required test specimens required to meet the code.

Hey Al

Thanks for your reply.

The question was:  the attached MTR has ASTM A29-03 (A108-99) 1018.
To me it looks like I could use it as ASTM A29 gr. 1018  or  A108 gr. 1018.
Yes or no.

Thanks for your time.

ASTM A29 isn't listed by Section IX. A108 1018 has no mechanical properties listed, so, I go back to the quote I included in your other post.

Hey Al
Thanks for your reply.
Yes A29 is not listed. A108 has no min. specified tensile strength. I`n not trying to do a PQR with these materials. My company has a PQR / WPS for
P-no.1 material that is qualified. This material was going to be used for non pressure parts, no impacts, no hardness, etc..

The problem is the material supplier and the MTR`s. When I order material to ASTM A108 gr. 1018, I would like to see the MTR with this spec. & grade on it and not in brackets. Since I`m new to ASME sect. IX, I`m just trying to make sure what I ordered is what I got.

So if I read between the lines, I think your saying that this material is ok to be used as ASTM A108 gr. 1018??
The material supplier said I could use it as ASTM A108 gr. 1018, but just wanted another opinion.
I really don`t trust them as I already caught some material that I had to send back.

Thanks for your time.

I think we're on the same page. You can't use A108 to qualify the WPS, but if you have a PQR/WPS for P1 material, you can revise the WPS to include the A108.
