I am reading note# 3 of table 6.3 and it states that you must subtract 4dB from any indation found in the root face of "CJP double groove weld joints", does this apply to only double groove welds as stated?  We do a single V with a 6-8mm root face and one of our customer says you have to subtract the 4dB and the way it is worded I would say we don't, it is not a double groove weld joint.  Does anyone have any opinions or have dealt with this before?

I haven't dealt with it but i'm reading it the same way you are.  I believe the intent is to ensure the other side of the weld has through fusion in the root area thats why the note doesn't apply when you backgouge to sound metal and MT the backgouged area.

that would only apply to double v tension welds

My understanding of the db increase is to find small areas of lack of fusion at the interface between the two welded sides.  The lack of fusion would be due to not goughing to "sound metal".
