I've contacted the Union twice out of tulsa and no one would even return my emails?  Is the mighty union a thing of the past?  I always thought the union wanted members.. I want to hear your opinions guys..

thanks for the input

You must not have any family in Bald Knob AR.
Parent - By Harley5150 (*) Date 01-11-2007 01:14

The union is still very strong and is in need of good welders, if it was easy to do it wouldn't be worth doing. I have no family relations to anyone in the union. until recently I did not even know anyone, 798 has already done so much for my family, it is well worth anyones time to look into.

if you are serious about joining 798, you need to call between 8:30am and 400pm. we do need good welders and helpers too. we have so much work right now that a man could make a small fortune in the next 10 yrs. good luck

I have been paying for my laborer's book.  I believe I owe $200 left for the book and I have experience working as a welder's helper.  I need to know where there are some jobs.   Do you know how to get ahold of any stewarts in Rawlins, Wyoming?

Yep, I am currently pipelining. Yep, seen you union guys work.

One guy works, two guys help to work, two others supervise, and then when a rod is burned it's time for a cigarette.......

im just out of high school and want to weld but i know i cant do that yet and wanted to know what i should do about getting into the 798
Parent - - By Tnwelder (**) Date 02-06-2008 21:10
I wanna weld im in college for welding right now. Tips to get more training do not go to college for welding. It is nothing but a joke. I go about my business and weld most people just play on the computer an weld a little bit. Joining a union would be good for right out of high school if you can get in. I have heard it is hard to get in to unions anymore it used to be easy. Is the 798 part of the ua.
Parent - By Roadtrash (*) Date 02-08-2008 23:36
yes 798 is part of the UA. But believe me it is a whole different world....... they weld backwards 8)

Thank you for the number! As scary as this sounds, I am totally tickled with the phone number. You are AWSOME! I have been trying since December 07 to get a number for the union but everyone local to me, even the certified welders I personally know, would not give me any info in joining the union except for the local 798 number. Thank you kindly for the info!!

Have you had any luck getting ahold of anyone in the pipeline?
Parent - - By AnotherPender (*) Date 11-16-2007 00:40
sorry for not being on here for a while. i'm in wisconsin right now. I know there is a job going from vernal, utah to rock springs, wyoming if you are looking for work around there. there is a bunch of work in northern louisianna and mississippi. ummm. . . .  let me find out more in the morning. If you are gonna be a pipeliner you'll have to travel.
Parent - - By JescoPressure (**) Date 12-06-2007 21:27
is the 798 part of the UA international? Im up in Canada wonder if they take travel cards out of other locals pipeline divisions?
Parent - - By ntbroz (*) Date 08-25-2008 07:00
i am a pipeliner from texas and i have a buddy that is in 798 and i tried talking to him to just kind of get some info but he is always busy. So i was just wanting to know what all it takes to get a test or what u have to do to be a permit welder for them

I got an application just a few weeks ago for a friend, by, get this now, finding Local 798 on the web, calling the number listed, left a message because it was after hours. I then received a return call the next morning at appx. 9am. It was waiting in the mailbox 2 days later. Believe me I'm nobody with 798, heck I'm not even a member.   Just call the hall! It was that easy as of 3 weeks ago.

Anybody know about any pipeline work around the Kansas City area.  I have never done any pipe work but it sounds like it could be lucrative and interesting.   Haven't welded any SMAW since welding school in 1992.  Any suggestions?
Thanks.
