Here's a car that I have been tinkering with in my spare time...1970 RS/SS350 Camaro
The goal is to have the same ole classic lines but with a more modern feel to the handling and braking. I'm not sure that I would get serious with Auto-X, but would enjoy a car that is capable.

here are the brackets to hang the new Corvette calipers onto my 1970 front spindles and rear axle

here is the rear mounting plates being trial fitted for the Corvette calipers

here is how I made the front hubs for the C5 rotors to fit onto(took a parting tool and cut the rotor off the 1970 rotor/hub assembly so that the C5 rotors will slip up onto the studs

Here is where I modified the front spindle for the new brackets to bolt to.

These are all of the pics that I have at work with me at the moment...I've finished fitting the whole braking system and will be plumbing all of the fluid lines and fabricating new backing plates for the front brake to incorporate cooling ducts to direct cooler air to the center of the inside of the front rotors.

Hey new tito,
Interesting topic for sure. You should get some fascinating responses.

Since I'm a diehard-hardcore biker, I spend a lot of my spare time, weather permitting, in the saddle exploring new places. I do some freelance photojournalism and am a published poet. I am an ex-pilot and in a year or so, I'm going to get back into serious flying again. I plan to purchase a mini-warbird, WWII era, and build it myself. Haven't decided on which....the Spitfire of the P51 Mustang. There's a small airfield only 3 miles from home and I know the fellows there who fly their Cessnas & Beech's and have plenty of room for additional pilots & planes.

John Wright: Love your classic....you've done some beautiful fabricating and enhancements. Nice photos...

thirdeye: WHOA!!! Talk about making a mouth water.....or DROOL!!!! I had to go get a napkin. Now that's what I call eatin'!!!

Denny: didn't know you were a pilot. My dad had a super cub when we were kids. I remember my older brother and I jumping out and holding the wings after landing so it wouldnt take back off in a headwind. Tundra tires and the whole 9. Pops could land the thing on an ant on the side of a mountain. He sold it when us kids started taking an serious interest in flying. Imagine that...?

Thirdeye - Man, I love me some BBQ!!! Nothin better than gettin a bunch of friends together and firen' up the pit.

Yorkiepap - sounds like you've got some adventuresome hobbies. I'm not a "biker", but the V-rod turned me onto a Harley freak, and I one day will own one!!! We play at alot of biker bars...good bunch of people for the most part. Two of my bandmates are also pilots. Ones does crop dusting sometimes, and the other is a "joy-rider" I guess!!

Well, I'd like to comment on the pics, but my lovely work PC has a firewall that blocks EVERYTHING!!!! Have to check 'em out when I get home. I'll post some of my gig photos too.

Besides my Family,

I like animals as does my wife. We have Chickens, Dogs, RFabbits, a Goat, Iguana etc. She does the work, I just sit in the yard and look at em. I also ride a skateboard. Not well, but I still love it.

Alright, man just havin' fun!
I carve walrus ivory and antler. It's lucrative, but not like welding. Elegant jewelery is my specialty. Nothing under a hundred bucks. I carved a fossil mammoth and carnelian aggate bracelet that went for over a grand last year at Westfest.
Matching scrimshaw moose antlers with the knots carved into eagle heads for 7k. Installed over a fireplace in a 34 million dollar vacation home in Snowmass.

Idle winter hours back in Alaska. Plenty of native buddies. . ..

You can never be too SAFE ! I have worn safety glasses as my prescription glasses since High School. I think I have had 2 or 3 pairs that were not safety glasses. The nice thing about the UVEX frames was being able to change colors to match my wardrobe.

Ooooh, im jeleous!!! My baby is my Takamine EG523 (was my first real guitar), and next would be my MIM strat I got for $150 (not bad for a beginner elec.). Ive got a few others that were given to me that just sit and dont get much use, not that great of guitars, but sentimental value makes me keep 'em. My next big purchase will be a good tube amp.

Most of my free time is spent drinking, but I only drink because it makes everyone around me seem more interesting. Sometimes, when I'm not drinking, I like to start an argument with the four walls of my living room and then abruptly leave the room to let the ceiling settle it. If it's warm outside, I like to stand in my front yard wearing nothing but my Hello Kitty training panties and point a broken hairdryer at passing cars to see if they slow down. If it's cold outside, I'll stay in and play my 33 rpm records at 78 rpm speed to sharpen my superior mental thought processing capabilities, or play full contact Solitaire. If I can't decide on what I want to do, I'll just go to my room and jump up and down on my bed, jumping high enough to repeatedly bang my head on the ceiling until I knock myself unconscious.

My second? favorite all time hobby is and will always be CHASING WOMEN - PERIOD!!! The more the merrier!!!
I like to record as much music & movies as I can get my hands on during my spare time.

I also try my best to give some folks advice on matters regarding liver transplantation, whether it's how to cope while on the waiting list, or being able to decipher the blood work test results, complications that may occur & how to deal with them, to what someone can expect after recieving the gift of life and how to maintain good health while enjoying the benefits of a second chance in living a wonderful life!!!

My metal sculpture hobby has been dormant as of late but, I'm starting to feel the "creative itch" once again, only this time I'm going to combine different media with metal so that may soon be taking over some of my spare time soon enough...

I try to walk as much as possible these days in order to keep my metabolism up as much as possible so that I can enjoy one of my favorite hobbies which is cooking up a bunch of great tasting food for my friends.

Ohh yeah I almost forgot, I still paint with oils... In fact, I'm working on a painting of the "Malecon" in Cuba based on a photograph taken by my father back in the early fifties when he went back to visit Havana.
I've been working on this painting for almost two years now so, it's gone through some changes to say the least!!! I also completed a painting the spanish fort/castle named "Castillo de El Morro" located in the harbor of Santiago de Cuba which was also based on an older photograph which was taken by my Abuelito, Don Pedro Cabrera Triana who was originally from the Canary Islands...
In other words, I'm into recreating my family's memories into paintings that attempt to depict their true meaning.

One day before I die, I will be allowed to enter Cuba, and discover part of my family's past... I have'nt been allowed to enter Cuba because of my Grandfather's name, and my great uncle's work with the "company" after Fidel took over so, I'm looked upon as a threat to the Cuban government...
I'm the first person in my family born & raised in the United States of America, and yet the closest I've personally been to Cuba was when I was in Gitmo for a brief stay while in the service!!!

This brings me to my sixth or seventh favorite hobby depending on my mood which is to explore as much as possible about the history of Cuba and the Dominican Republic! I want to become a sponge when it comes to the history of Cuba and the Dominican Republic!!! After all, it's part of my heritage. Btw, I know much more about the history of the Dominican Republic because I went to school there for a year when I was younger to learn the spanish language... My mother and her family is from DR! I try to go back and visit as much as possible as we have a tobacco "Finca" (plantation) there in "Santiago de los Caballerros" and a house in the Capital - Santo Domingo which happens to be the oldest city in the "New world".

Running a close seventh or is it eight? Is my obsession with regards to the history & mystery ancient Taino indian tribes of Cuba, the island of Hispaniola (Now Haiti & the Dominican Republic) and Puerto Rico.
It is said that the mystery regarding the disappearance of the Tainos were a result of being victims of disease bought over from the conquistadors, and another rumor is that the Tainos disappeared as a result of genocide committed by the conquistadors... There are other possibilities that may have caused the disappearance of the Tainos, and that is why it still remains a mystery. That is precisely why I'm so fascinated by it! Oh well, gotta get my gear ready for some cave diving in DR soon enough!!!

Anywho, I envy swnorris, and the rest of you folks that can still drink and enjoy themselves!!! If I try that hobby again, I'll end up in the ICU and I swore to myself that I've seen the last of them so if you folks do'nt mind, Please have one for me!!!

Thirdeye! Those are Thai spicy "shish Kbobs" I'm putting together on the Fourth of July which I always provide as my own form of "Fireworks" - the eatin kind!!!
Only nowadays I can't enjoy them anymore - Huge Bummer because I love spicy food!!!

I do miss my studio back in the "Big Apple" where I used to make some functional furniture out of "scrapped" english muffin tray molds & all kinds of wierd sculpture pieces from scrap metal for those rich folks who were always looking for all kinds of tax breaks - if you get my meaning!!!

I would venture a guess that it's the exhaust from the tug alongside the boat, or it could be the boat's diesel running.

About 2/3 of the way down there is a rear view, whatever is venting is definitly coming from the sub. I can't get a link to the large picture to work, sorry. I know mostly nothing about nuclear subs. Do they have auxiliary diesel power to maneuver in close quarters? My guess was that the boat (a sub is a boat not a ship right?) couldn't draw in cooling water for the condensers for fear of drawing in trash from the shallow water and had to revert to exhausting steam to the atmosphere.

Hi Bill!
"Submariners, Squids & Yardbirds" affectionately call them "Boats" even though technically speaking, they are considered as "Ships". Hence, the abbreviations "SSN or SSBN" which stand for Sub Ship Nuclear or Sub Ship Ballistic Nuclear. The size of a Trident SSBN is very close to the size & weight of a cruiser but, can a cruiser sink and surface repeatedly??? This is another of the many "somewhat rational" arguements we use to defend our calling submarines "Boats" as opposed to calling them ships even though we'll call them ships when we use the phrase that I use as part of my own signature here which is: "There are two types of ships... Submarines and Targets!"

To answer your question as to whether or not this type of Submarine has auxillary diesel power to maneuver in close quarters? the answer is yes they do but, the Submarines also need the assistance of Tugboats to "Nudge" them towards the docks because of their inherent lack of maneuverabilty while surfaced.
Those are exhaust vents located on the conning tower... You can see the location of the vents better here or shown below this pic with the USS ALABAMA shown next to Mount Ranier or finally this pic from the back of the USS ALABAMA showing the vents without any exhaust coming out... In other words, a good view of their location:

Man you guys live exciting life. I fly rc planes. Very fun. I also live to hunt,(anything, anytime,anyplace)! welding is kinda my hobby to i guess. I try to spend equal amounts of money on each. I have international scout, that used to run, but doesnt really now. (half is my bro's and half mine) I wish I could learn to make school work a hobby so it is'nt so bad......but it wont happen, ever. Man, Rafter, I wish I had a mini14 *droolling with envy*!!!

Are you interested in electric or nitro? I fly electric..... there are some great forums that give flying tips as well as the guys will gladly give you advise on trainers. I learned to fly on a electric 3ch v tail. Its called a Aerobird Challenger. Check out this site. It has some great info.

I've always been a pyromaniac...
That's why I chose to be a welder when I got out of high school as I knew I'd be able to play with fire every day.
Now I don't get to weld any more, at work anyway, cause I'm managing a welding shop, so I found a new hobby.
FIREWORKS!
I've found that I can obtain all the materials I need by mail order and have collected hundreds of chemical "recipes" that allow me to make any kind of firework I want.
Last 4th of July was really spectacular at my place! I made a bunch of aerial shells, fired from mortar tubes, similar to the ones you see at the big firework shows.
I don't know how long this new hobby will last as I'm liable to blow myself to smithereens one day, but I sure am enjoying it. (Allthough, I must say that my wife and neighbors wish I would find a different hobby.)

I have aneighbor that does a huge fireworks show each year and it goes on and on...I hate to think about what he spends each year. People come from miles around and set up lawn chairs all along the highway for several miles in each direction. I drive my pickup and put the chairs back there so I get drive further off the shoulder to get to a safer place because all of the traffic is trying to look up while driving by...LOL

i've been brewing beer for about ten years. play pool almost every day. have a 400 sqft indoor garden. nothing like fresh veggies and herbs all year, especially in the winter.

I like to trap small fish from our local streams and keep them in my aquarium. I'll put good ol U.S. up against $25 pet store imports any day for color and interesting behavior.

My Wife and I also are bee keepers. We are learning all over again out here in the midwest. In the Sonoma wine country we sometimes got more honey in the winter than in the summer.. Now we have to learn how to keep em alive when it gets 10 below!

We travel less now that I no longer fly for free. But we still enjoy visiting the Yuccitan and also visit Portugal as often as we can.

But I can tell you that 3 of the best reasons to teach at a tech college are June, July and August! Nothing like canoing and fishing for smallies and walleye in the Wisconsin north woods in July!

I'm also a chaplain at our local jail.

1) join photobucket or something like that(there are others...photobucket is free).
2) upload your pics to photobucket
3) find the three links that photobucket creates under each pic, copy the bottom link to your clip board by swiping the entire text string, right clicking and choosing copy.
4) start a thread/post in the forum and paste the text string that you copied into your message(but...you have to change the [IMG] to read [img] in the beguinning tag, and [/IMG] to read [/img] in the end tag.

When you post it will now show your pics....
