Section 2.7.1 and 2.16.1 discusses transition requirements for welded butt joints. what is the oppinion of this group in the application of these requirements on PJP welds on the non welded side?

these requirements are for welds in tension and subject to cyclic tensile stress. they are required because there is a stress riser at the thickness change. the stresses are concentrated at right angle of the thickness change. a pjp weld has a stress riser built into it (the unwelded opposite of the root). so transitioning it can not eliminate the stress riser that is inherently part of a pjp
