That's right, thanks to a suggestion by an avid forum user in another thread, I got all my duckies together and proposed the CWI thing to my employer.  My boss approved without much hesitation, but I sure did have to sell it to him.  That's not to hard to do with an internationally known certification, although in the ASME pressure vessel world, a CWI is rarely, if ever, "required".

I've got my apps filled out, and need my vision test.  Is there anything else I'm missing for the time being?  I'm trying to get this ASAP with my deadline Feb 12, for testing in Houston in March.

Congrats, new tito, it doesn't sound like you're missing anything else for the moment assuming you have the code book you'll use for the test.

no, no code book yet.  And it'll be API 1104, but not for the reason most other people go with that.  I haven't dealt with D1.1 in years, and if I continue with my employer, I dont see using that code nowhere in the near future.

good luck! be careful on the api!! I took it in 06 and was told we were one of the first classes to test in the new 60 questions vs 45 questions in d1.1. the insrtuctor took the test for the only reason of seeing how hard it was and told a group of use later that the appendix questions that made up the last 15 questions were geared toward engineers and nothing a cwi would have say over! if you go api get the book early, study the appendixes hard and call aws and see if they will divulge the pass/fail rate of the api 1104 test. don't know if they will tell you but u can ask. Mite want to start a post for anyone who took the test to the 20th edition of api 1104. I failed the code test by 6 questions and all were pertaining to the appendixes. also, one of the test questions dealt with some serious math. i got i right only because the question on the test was also the sample question in the appendix! I had an engineer in my code test group who did the math in about 5 minutes and he said the only way he could do it was because he had a calculator capable of handling the problem! Now remember, you've got 60 ?'s and two hours to test in, and the engineer with the $200.00 calculator and engineering degree took 5 minute to solve it!!! I admit i took api because i thought i would be easier to navagate (and it was minus the appendix's) but iwished i'd gone D1.1. also if u go D1.1 u get more independent study time because u don't have to sit throught the api code clinic. With api u will sit through both d1.1 and api clinics. Either way u go, best of luck, don't let this spook you. just telling u what i know from my experience. our group had alot of guys going through the 2nd and 3rd time. make no mistake its hard but it can be done. Giv'em hell!!! You'll do fine!!!
