What grade is the stainless being welded?? If it's 308, weld it with that. Same goes for 309, or 316. As long as the cs is not some exotic alloy, match the filler with the stainless base.
309 is the kneejerk choice given that the higher alloy content assists in preventing the formation of embrittling martensite with minimal dilution. However, it is possible that more specifics of application, service, type of stainless steel, may suggest a more thorough consideration. Although 308 and 316 would not generally be a consideration for dissimilars with CS.
