I'm trying to find were I can find info. on repair of k sec. of wide flange beams. I have looked in aws d1.1 and astm A572-50. Also Inspection of same. (building).
More Info.
Wide Flange Beam has a gash in web (1 1/4" wide and about 18" long and about 1/4" deep) Most of it is in k area. Beam is Astm A572-50, size W 21 x 50.
AISC give's 1 5/16" as K sec.
As being a inspector the rule is no welding in the K area!
So where can I find this info. and what about repairing in this area.
I'm in a welding shop and this work is for a new building.
Hope you can lead me to the right Info.

I would suggest that you take a look at ASTM A6.  My 02 edition, Section 9. Quality- 9.3 Structural Size Shapes, Bar Size Shapes, and Sheet Piling Conditioning:. It gives you some options and ideas about doing a repair.  You may be able to get your money(TIME) back from your supplier if it does in fact exceed factory tolerance's.
