What is the difference between a Gap-A-Let and a Gap-O-Let.  I think one is water soluble and the other one will remain as it is after hydrotest. can anybody clear this ?

G.A.L. GAGE Co.'s GAP-A-LET is a stainless steel split ring designed to give a pre-measured 1/16" gap for socket welds. Socket welds may be upset pipe or couplers, crosses, elbows or caps. Sock-O-Let and WELDOLETS are tradenames for socket weld pipe fittings.

GAP-O-LET:  No such thing.  The "olet" fittings are a trademark of Bonney Forge. http://www.bonneyforge.com/branch.cfm

The water soluble socket spacers are called Shur-Gap which is a registered trademark. They set the correct 1/16" gap then will dissolve, leaving the system clean but with the required gap.     www.abpaper.com
