Per D1.1 table 4.5 I do not see any variable listed that prohibits you from going from a semiautomatic welding process GMAW to a mechanized system.  My opinion is that as long as we stay within the parameters of Table 4.5 we are OK using the WPS already written for semiautomatic procedures.

I agree.... GMAW is GMAW it's all about process.

Your "welders" become "welding operators" if they are dedicated to mechanized operations alone, although a couple of squirts with the old gun every few months ought to keep their continuity as 'welders' too.

If you qualify a procedure (PQR) that was made using a mechanized buggo type tractor set up....is there an essential variable to prohibit writting a WPS to weld it 'hand held" manually?
