I need to build up worn/broken cog type parts that see metal to metal contact.  The parts are cast manganese steel, (nom. chemistry 1%C, 14%Mn, 1%Cr, 1-3/4% Mo.).  In manufacturing we use a 309L FCAW to attach or join the casting in non-loaded areas.  The worn areas are "as cast" and need base metal build-up, up to total replacement of broken / missing edges.  Then re-shaping with a grinder to return to the "as cast" profile.  Any thoughts on proper procedures, filler metals, heats, etc. would be appreciated.

Stoody Nicromang ought to do the trick:

It work hardens, so be sure to get the build up profile as close as possible before trying to dress it.

Lincoln also has some austenitic manganese steel FCAW wires.  Stoody may have some too, but I haven't checked.
