Anybody had any experience welding Aluminum alloy 5083 H321 or H116?
What are their predominant applications?

I will probably be qualifying procedures welding 5083 H116 in a few weeks using 5183 filler metal.  Seems like it is a popular alloy for marine applications.

I guess I'm as guilty as some at not providing enough specifics to clarify. I'm not looking for welding parameters as such. Just those things encountered by those who have spent some time with this alloy (or the H116) that in their judgment is unique, either in welding, mechanicals, HAZ's, discontinuities, etc. things to watch out for, I suppose.
Or for that matter a confirmation that there are no real unique characteristics other than, say, filler matching as usual.

Steve Gensh at Forgemagic.com built a boat from 5xxx, I don't remember if it was 5083 or 5086.  I think He used MIG, 5356 wire & argon. You might post over there and ask Him if You don't get enough input here.

We get some booms for man lifts in here that are made from that 5083-h32. Like what was said above it is a highly corrosion resistent aluminum mostly used in marine applications or ship building.  It is most commonly welded with 5356, but there are 2 more wires used one being 5183 and i forget what the other one was.  We use 5356 and i found some data on the actual material if you need it. http://asm.matweb.com/search/SpecificMaterial.asp?bassnum=MA5083H32
