Pretty sure all the casino work is union.

I was just on a non union solar power plant right outside Vegas, the pay was $25 hour and $60 per diem

Hi ZCat!

How was that job? The reason I asked is because I suggested to a few of my ex-students to  at least check it out and I believe one of them went out there btu, I have'nt heard "Hide nor Hair" of the young man since and that was a few months ago...

I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know what type of job it was and the "atmosphere" of the site and the surrounding area. I'm growing concerned about my ex-student not keeping in touch with me with respect to that job... I hope I did'nt suggest a "FUBAR" to him.

Pretty strange outfit to work for, Henry, they didn't much care if you stood around all day, just don't get caught rolling up before 10 minutes to quit time. Made us walk around and pick up trash all day a few times. They were always running out of consumables like clear lenses and tig cups, grinding wheels and such, strictly a poor boy mentality. One time they ran out of 3/32 7018 for a few days, also 3/32 TIG wire. Went up to the tool room to get a harness one day....fresh out, go borrow one from somebody. Oh yeah, we got those on order.
Buncha amateurs, really.

Too bad, cause there was a lot of nice pipe to weld there, lots of 18" and 20" in sleeper racks and up in the pipe rack. What was weird, they weren't X raying or hydroing hardly any of it, just weld it up then, the insulators started covering it up. Weird... Wasn't a terrible job, just strange for me after working in a fab shop in Alaska for so long that always had everything you needed, or if they didn't, they got it right away.

What was your student's name, I may have met him...

Why do you want to go to Nevada? It's hotter than hell out there in the summertime. Winter was good, but it's getting real warm out there now.

Fluor Daniel has a job in Dunphy/Battle Mountain. The solar job is still going on, they are crying for welders.

You need to call the union halls if you want a job in Vegas.

Hi Guy

Listen I live out here in Las Vegas for the past 6yrs.
YES its gets HOT out here. However, everywhere you go there's AIR CONDESTIONING.

The rest of the year; 9/10 months are OUT OF THIS WORLD.

I love it here.
