Copper Rods for GTAW Welding of flux beds.

Hi Gerald, your statement is a little vague to what u r looking 4.
But, i've welded copper before using a rod called Everdure 254; it's a silicone bronze rod.
Most of the heat from the GTAW process should be directed onto the rod and not the base material.
Another rod we use for welding material of 90/10 (90%cu+10%ni) would be an ER70/30 rod.

We are welding pure copper. The normal rod would be ERCu. Our supplier will only provide 1o lb quantities. I was just curious if anyone knew of a source for smaller quantities. The flux beds are about 3/4" thick and will have to be welded and ground in place. I am just looking for a small quantity supplier to make sure I will be able to do it.

I have GTAW welded thinner copper (1/8) with no problem. I am just not sure how it will work on a thicker section.

If ERCu is pure copper (I don't know) you could try using scrap electrical wire which is also pure copper (impurities raise the resistance). No warranty express or implied with this advice.

when I have seen people GTAW copper they cut strips of the copper sheet metal they were welding
