Which is better AWS/CWI or CSWIP3.1? Why?

In my opinion, CSWIP3.1 is better than AWC/CWI because:

1. - CSWIP can apply for the Reciprocity of IIW-IWT (International Institute of Welding-International Welding Technologist).
2. - 5Years Expiration compare to AWS 3years.
3. - In the Middle East, ASIA and Europe. CSWIP are more Favorable and Acceptable.
4. - Cheaper Examination, Seminar and Membership compare to AWS.

Eventhough I am AWS/CWI, I am planning to take Bridging Examination because the reason stated above.

a CSWIP/AWS Inspection certificate does not give you EWT diploma.....

I've seen a letter from IIW/IIS (which as far as I know has pretty much replaced EWT in issuing credentials) saying they consider themselves equivalent to CSWIP.

Then there's this:
http://www.twiprofessional.com/professional/unprotected/band_1/sptjjmay2005.html
Unless they're talking about a hypothetical situation, about 60% down the page it says this:
"CSWIP Welding Inspectors and Senior Welding Inspectors are automatically entitled to the equivalent IIW Diplomas."

Yes - IIW welding inspection diploma - EWT is European Welding Technologist.
A whole different ballgame than CSWIP inspection cert.
Trust me, I have both, and know what it takes....

I can only speak from the CWI side, having mine since 1980, but from the various countries I've worked, they seem to be about equal in recognition although the CWI is certainly more prevalent in actual certificated members at the moment.  I'm currently working with a predominantly British / UK group at the moment so naturally, they tend to favor the CSWIP Program.  Having looked at both sides, I think it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.  The CWI Program remains weak, in my opinion, on metrication and ISO terminology but that's up to the Certification Committee to take action, or not.

CSWIP 3.1(Inspector)Gives you IIW Inspection Basic diploma
CSWIP 3.2(senior)Gives you IIW Inspection Specialist diploma

In order to become EWT, you will need a technical degree, to receive the EWT diploma(after a completed course and examination)

With the CSWIP 3.2 Inspection certificate - it includes rad. interp. - you will be able to cash in the big money :)
But you need to hold the CSWIP 3.1 Inspection certificate for minimum 2 years before you can attend the 3.2 course

Hope this clears some things for you....
