I'm doing some research on what type of filler rod i want to use for a particular job.  Does anyone know of a wesite that talks about the make up of lets say ER70S-2through6 and ER80S-D2's and B2's and what their chemical compositions are and differences.

Thanks, Kix

The major material manufacturer's usually provide "typical" data for their product.  It's not as simple as having it all in one spot, but with a little patience, you can compile the data on your own.

Alternatively, ASME Section IIC has all the required specifications, but it's a relatively pricey book that you may not want to purchase.

Hello Kix, I tried to find some info on the web in regards to your question and apparently I just don't know how to navigate it properly because I couldn't find what I have in hard copy. The ESAB Filler Metals Data book has what you're looking for and the Hobart Pocket Welding Guide does also, I believe. So if you have access to one or both of these, take a look in them. Good luck and regards, aevald

Whats the difference between the -D2 and -B2 on the ER80S- wires?  I know we used to use the -B2 on chrome pipe a lot.

The -D2 has a significantly higher manganese content than the -B2. The -D2 is also rated at -20F "as welded" concerning impact strength. Due to higher strength properties the B2 electrode would not be a good choice for weldements that will be used in the as welded condition. The B2 really needs to be PWHT. If PWHT is not going to be performed I think the D2 would be a better choioce for low alloy steels.

Thats right, when i was using the -B2 on the chrome pipe it was allways PWHT.  Cool man thanks for the quick info!!
