I have a skewed 3/8 " thick shear plate shop welded into the web of a beam.  The acute angle is between 30 deg and 60 deg.  Is there a prequalified weld for this joint?  Does it require the end of the plate to be beveled such that it bears fully on the beam web?  Is this covered under details C and D of figure 3.11 in ASW D1.1:2006?

Kyle:

You answered your own question. Figure 3.11, details C and D would be your prequalified joint details for your situation.

I thought so too, but an inspector told me that I had a joint that must be qualified by testing.
