I recently read the article in the May issue of Welding Journal on EB Welding the F-14.  Absolutely fascinating!  The article described a procedure where areas of possible defects were drilled out and an interference fit "Multiphase 35" pin installed.  While I am familiar with what an interference fit is, what does this pin look like ?  What is it made of?  I am no engineer, and a barely adequate weldor, but I am always wanting to know more about the world.  Anybody out there who can shed some light on this?

I read a similar article on this (draggbody and I are friends) while researching this, the pin he is referring to is basically a machined rod with a threaded end for a castle nut, on this pin, you install the rotor with the bearings inside.  Hope that clears up a little bit.  It looks like he's using a migwelder, his welding looks good and solid, its just a question as far as the science behind welding these two metals together and the safety issue it creates.
