Had a friend ask me a question that was on his trade exam!
What you would do special  if welding with 7018 in horizontal position?
a)weave
b)strait across
c)turn down heat
d)something else?

Can someone let me know what they think?

Thanks,

7018 does not weave well in the horizontal position... it tends to leave overlap at the lower toe. Stringers are best applied if 7018 beads are to be stacked in the horizontal position.

It weaves just fine in flat, vertical-up and overhead positions.

Agree with Lawrence you would not weave or turn the heat down. Don't know what D would be (something else) unless it had to do with rod angle. Weld straight across would be correct answer.
