Up Topic Welding Industry / Technical Discussions / AWS D1.1 table 4.4
- - By Mauricio Ibarra (*) Date 03-15-2001 21:17
In the past edition, for example 98 and 96, the table 4.4 showed the following Statement:

Sizes Qualified
Fillet Size
max tested single pass and smaller
Max tested multiple pass and larger

However, in the 2000 edition show:

Sizes Qualified
Fillet Size
max tested single pass and smaller
Min tested multiple pass and larger

Was there a mistake in the past edition for qualified multiple pass?

and the other question, about fig. 4.19. Is the illustration mandatory, I mean I have to put three beads in multiple pass to reach may min weld size that I can use in construction?

thanks,

Sir,
I have all 3 editions of the D1.1 in front of me and they all denote the same information for the sepcific table and section you asked about. Please note there have been mistakes in this code (nobody's perfect). I have my 96 marked up with sections that differ in the same 96 edition I purchased for one of my clients (i.e., 2.3.3.1). There is errata available from AWS. My guess is these books were published on different dates.

In response to your second question, you should use as many passes as you would be during production. The figure is for demonstrative purposes only.
