Chapter 1
1.  appropriate work habits caution and common sense
2.  1st Redness, tenderness, pain, no broken skin.  Apply cold water or compress until pain decreases then cover with sterile bandages  Damage to the levels of blisters or       2nd broken skin,  treat with cold water or cold compresses cover with sterile bandages and seek medical attention
3rd   appearance of charring or a white color,  no initial pain due to damaged nerve endings,  cold compresses and call ambulance

3.  ultraviolet
4.   flash burn
5.  protection from flying debris and reflected light
6.  The cells that are burned die and are a breeding ground for bacterial infections the could potentially cause extensive eye damage or worse and because eye burns will feel similar to having something in the eye the could be a potential source of infection
7.  plastic
8.  to prevent ear damage from long term exposure to high level noise and to prevent sparks from flying into the ear
9.  lead, cadmium, zinc, and possibly chromium mostly used in coatings and paints,  also dirty greasy metals can create fumes
10.  Because of the harmful by products produced from welding and cutting suce as dusts fumes, fogs, gases, smokes, sprays or vapors
11.  material specification data sheets detail potential hazards from products and are often posted in the work place bulletin board or work area
12.  Small shops, shops with large numbers of welders or in shops that weld metals that can give off dangerous fumes such as lead, zinc, beryllium, cadmium etc.
13.  Because water is an excellent conductor of electricity and electrical resistance is lowered in the presence of water or moisture
14.   10 feet or 3m
15.  synthetic
16.  100% wool or cotton
17.  capes, jackets, sleeves, gloves, caps, kneepads e.t.c.
18.  All leather cape type
19.  with a wall at least 5 ft. tall with a ½ hour burn rating
20.  Secured with a chain or other device
21.  The cylinder can fly around the shop like a missle
22.  Moved out of the shop posted and slowly release the pressure
23.  Because the acetone is absorbed in a filler and the filler does not allow the liquid to settle back away from the valve very quickly and acetone can be drawn out of the cylinder lowering the flame temperature damaging regulators or torch valve settings
24.  When welding within 35ft of combustible materials,  when sparks can reach more than 35 ft or when anything more than a minor fire could start
25.  a.  B  b.  C  c.  A  d.  D
26.  In order to detect potential problems preventing injury or damage to equipment
27.  Because of the potential for chips to fly off when being struck
28.  Tapping in 4 points 90 degrees apart and listening for a sharp ring,  dull indicates cracks
29.  within 1/16 of an inch
30.  With your legs keeping the objects weight distributed equally between both hands having the center of gravity of the obect as close to the center of your body as possible
31.
infrared light- light wave fest as heat
U.V. light- Most dangerous type of light, cannot be seen or felt
Forced ventilation-  Utilize general or localized exhaust pickups to carry potential airborne hazards out of the work area
Natural ventilation- areas that are at least 10000 cu. Ft. per welder and have 16 ft. ceilings or higher and are not collecting fumes or smoke
Valve protection cap- cap on the top of compressed cylinders designed to protect the valve from an impact
Acetone-  a common polar solvent, utilized as a solvent for acetylene in cylinders

32.  Appropriate work habits include the use of proper planning, clothing, equipment, and procedures.  While not all accidents can be prevented, utilizing proper work habits can prevent many of them and potentially minimize the severity of those unforeseen accidents that do occur.
