Hi Shad.
I just got one word to remind all of us who are faithful: P.U.S.H for Shad's baby - Ryder Dee Griffin and his family through these trying times!!! Amen.

In case some folks did'nt read a previous post in the off topic section this is what P.U.S.H. stands for:

          P-RAY
          U-NTIL
          S-OMETHING
          H-APPENS

I know I'll P.U.S.H. and P.U.S.H. and P.U.S.H.... Que Dios te Bendigas a tu Hijo Ryder Dee Griffin, y usted tambien con tu familia. :)Translation: May God Bless Ryder Dee Griffin, you and your family. :)

You've showed us great faith and courage in asking us to pray for your son... Any man that finds the strength enough to swallow his pride in asking for help is one BRAVE, FAITHFULL and COURAGEOUS MAN!!!

Respectfully,
Henry

You are so right Henry P.U.S.H. does work and something did happen there was a 10% chance he would'nt make it through the surgery. After further cat scans they also found the fluid that is required for the brain was not draining back into the body his lil drain hole was samshed shut from the pressure of the tumor and the cist that was on it so they put in what is called a shunt aka drain hose in his lil skull and routed down to his tummy. After that they did the biopsy the Dr. said it looked to be very aggressive and highly cancerous they are looking at the sample at the hospital today and are going to overnite it to Phillidelphia to the world pathology specialist i did some asking that that place is ranked #1 in the world so that where we stand we are continuing P.U.S.H. as i hope all of you will THANK YOU so much for your prayers and support through this trying time in our lives it feels so good to come home and see so many people are praying so hard for my lil boy it's really special to me and my family to know that people we have never met or spoken with in person really do care and are P.U.S.Hing for lil Ryder he's a fighter thats for sure when he saw my wife this a.m. he got the biggest smile on his face and then he looked at me and smiled to he is a strong willed lil man I am positive what ever he has growong in his lil head will all get cured and we will all be home together again i use to rode when i was younger so i keep tell him to rake and spur lil man jus rake and spur take it 1 jump at a time we got through 2 rounds already we are just in intermission til the short go and we'll ride that br4onc too i'll keep yall posted as we find out more thanks again for your support it helps more than you know

Hello raftergwelding, one step at a time and stay calm and focused, also as Henry said and has said on many other occasions to many others, keep on P.U.S.H.ing. I believe I can safely say that there are a bunch of us here on the forum who are doing just that. Wishing you, your wife, the rest of the family, and of course Ryder, the best. Allan

As some of you know Ryder went for surgery on friday 9/14/07. The DR was not able to get as much of the tumor as he wanted there was alot of bleeding and then Ryder died on the operating table but the team was able to bring him back the DR said the 1st 8 hrs were the most critical well we are 53 hours into the recovery and as usual Little ryder is throwing them all for a loop the Dr said to expect the worse and spend as much time as possible with him well Ryder aint quitting he is still in I C U and under pain and sedation medicine until further orders the DR does not want him moving at all the he is even fighting the sedatives and pain meds that are suppose to knock him out the nurse told us that is she gave us the does shes giveing him it would knock us out for a week and he's waking up 15-30 mins. after he gets 1 he does have some swelling from all the fluids and blood he got in the OR they had to give him 4 litres of blood he lost all of his and it quit clotting they finally got it to stop somewhat with some packing which will disolve in 2 or 4 weeks the place in philly misdiagnosed the tumor so they are running tests again so they know how to fight it but for now he is fine and still fighting please continue to pray for Ryder that is the best remedy we could ask for thank you all for your support and prayers.

Hello Shad, that is some pretty harrowing news. At the same time you have truly seen his spirit to keep on going. Continue to keep your sights set on his victory and the best for you and your family. Best regards and continued support, Allan

Shad, my heart sank when I read the first two sentences. Then I read the rest of your post and see that there is still hope. I'm sure many of us on this forum feel as if we know you and Ryder somewhat. I can't imagine the emotions you and your family have and still are going through. King David in the Old Testament had more troubles than I can mention when he wrote the 23rd Psalm

1.The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3.He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of rightousness for his name's sake.
4.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5.Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6.Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

We continue to pray for your situation.

He got home on wed. and had to go back on friday for a check up his counts were down a lil but we knew they would be dr the tumor wasnt any bigger but wasnt smaller either also said he would need blood on tues. we are trying to get him into st judes in memphis the docs down here still dont know what type of tumor we have and are sending more samples to philly and to st judes i think they are just guessing at this point and that Ryder is still throwing them for a loop all in all Ryder is doing well and hanging on like any cowboy should thank you all for your prayers and support RIDE RYDER RIDE

i thought you would like this my aunt gave it to me when we started our hospital tour and i knew it fit perfectly

                Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they
                        sometimes will,
  When the road you're trudging
                     seems all up hill,
  When the funds are low
                     and the debts are high,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit,
Life is queer with it's twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
  When he might have won
                      had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace
                                seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned
                     inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds
                         of doubt
And you never can tell
                  how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when
                      you're hardest hit-
It's when things seem worst

                 THAT
                       YOU
                           MUST
                                  NOT
                                       QUIT.

There are no coincidences Shad!!!

I say this because, every time I start a class of students wherever I have taught, those very same words are given to my students from me!!! I suggest that they keep the poem in their wallet or anywhere close so they can review it from time to time as a reminder of how important it is NOT TO QUIT!!! :) :) :)

Thanks for sharing that poem... It's certainly an inspirational one, and one of my favorites ;)

Respectfully,
Henry

Hello Henry, i got this in an email the other day and wanted to share it with you guys thanks for being there for me

St. Gerard, who, like the Savior, loved children so tenderly and by your prayers freed many from disease and even death, listen to us who are pleading for our sick child. We thank God for the great gift of our son, Ryder, and ask Him to restore our child to health if such be his holy will. This favor, we beg of you through your love for all children.  Amen

now everytime it gets read thats another sole praying for Ryder. He's growing like a weed and eating like a pig at a slop trough theres nothing that can stop him when found out about his cancer when he was 6 weeks old they said he had 3-4 months to live he turned 5 months old on friday what a champ never misses a lick and is always kicking his legs this tumor other than hair loss has not kept him from doing nothing thanks for being there brother

To Shad and his family...

I'm so happy for you, and your wonderful family that Ryder is FIVE Months old now!!! The news is better than any shot of medicine I've had lately, and the BEST news I've heard in a while!!! Thank You!!!

You know I'm still "P.U.S.H. ing" for Ryder, and will not stop doing that for him until I no longer can!!!
I love that picture of Ryder in the welder's cap!!! It's a perfect fit!!! He's a natural!!!

You know it shows what kind of a man you are - accepting the tremendous responsibilities, the overwhelming amount of stress, frustration, and anxiety while Ryder was flat out taking your love for him, and using that energy that only a loving, caring father could give to his son, and slaying the cancer dragon with his will to survive!!! The best news I read or heard about in quite some time!!!

I hope and pray for everyone to have a relatively more peaceful, less stressfull new year!!!
God Bless all of you folks in these trying times!!! May all of you, including everyone else in this forum of welding brothers, and sisters, Have a wonderful, safe, and Merry Christmas!!!

Respectfully,
Henry

that's great news Shad, he sure is a fighter. Do you guys do "mutton bustin" down there. It's when they put the young kids on sheep and see how long they can hold on at the rodeo? It's hilarious. If he's as big as you when he grows up he can just put his feet down and walk off. lol. happy holidays to you and your family.

Hello Shad, I was trying to think of all sorts of inspirational and uplifting kinds of things to relay to you and yours, and am at a loss. I will say this though, you will likely be on a rollercoaster ride for quite some time before you may feel truly comfortable enough to enjoy the gift that you have in a new son. My nineteen year old son was 8 when we received some medical news that set us back pretty hard. It took us a while to understand and see that it was more important for us to enjoy what we had instead of focusing on what he could not have. At nineteen he leads a relatively normal life like his siblings and other friends. Don't lose your focus and I'll say it again, be the calming effect for the rest of your family. I and everyone else will be P.U.S.H-ing(thanks for that term Henry) for Ryder. Best Regards, Allan
