how everybody doing. I got a question about some steel. What is the difference beteween a36 and a500 and also do you weld them differently with differnet rod and amps.
Thank again

They are both carbon steel. The same as far as welding goes.

Hello Gerald, maybe you can clear this up for me. I will often times see the A500 designation on tube steels, yet I have always assumed that they were in fact of an A36 material type, is this an incorrect line of thinking? Thanks and regards, aevald

The A500 is for tubing. I am pretty sure they are plain carbon steel. There may be differences in the grades in A500 that I am not aware of but all will be similar as far as welding goes. I don't have a material spec handy so I may be missing something.

Hello darren, and thank you for the links. From what I read, they appear to be very similar in mechanical and material composition with some slight differences. Much appreciated, have a great day and best regards, Allan

Hello Gerald, I believe you are correct as darren included some links in his response that give a listing of the mechanical properties and other characteristics of the two. Best regards, Allan
