SWPS are already qualified, no need to run any additional mechanical tests however a welder must run a coupon using the SWPS... check www.sperkoengineering.com he is the Vice Chair of ASME IX and has an excellent article on precautions to take.  By the way, there's no need to be position specific for a WPS (in most cases) but there is for performance qualification.  Good luck.
