Imagine the complaints your safety man will hear when somebody steps on that second foot pedal you set in a different work station while your welder is at the hot end of the electrode......  Does not sound like a very safe alternative.  There are some pretty light weight foot pedals out there that are easy to haul around... There are also thumb controls that strap right on to the torch.  I would explore those first.

But I suppose a sharp electritian could rig it up.
