I was contracted to radiograph and bend test some 6101-T64 alum. to the D1.2 spec. The welding was done with the GMAW spray and two different shielding gases have been tried. 100% Argon and 75% Ar-25%He. The electrode being used is ER-4043. I have very limited knowledge as to the requirements of D1.2 and am working off a faxed portion the customer sent me. The problem is, we are running about 95% porosity as measured on the radiograph in a selected area with no other vissible discontinuites. Root and face bends were tried at the customers request with the specimans breaking right into as soon as preasure was applied. Pipe size was 10" and wall thickness was .500". Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'm not an expert but sounds like you have a hydrogren problem. Oil or moisture on the part. You might be loosing your shielding gas. ER-4043 should work.
