Hi all
I just have discussion with colleagues about the pre-wps. each of us have one opinion... I decided to post the topic to seek for expertise advices.
in section 3.Prequalification of WPSs; para 3.1 says that "prequalification of wpss shall be defined as exempted from WPS qualification testing required in section 4. all prequalified wps shall be writen. in order for a wps to be prequalified, conformance with all of the applicable requirements of section 3 shall be required.
So, Should I need to qualify WPS if I prepare a prequalified wps in accordance with section 3? How can I know the qualified range eg: Thickness, dia, position etc.?

Thanks
Alex Hung

to me it looks like your not making a distinction of wps prequalification and welder qualification. the welder must be tested in accordance with section 4 (a few exceptions). that is where the limits you mention come from. or i could be totally misunderstanding your question.

Hogan
I am talking about prequalified WPS as per D1.1 , not related to welder qualification

ok look at figure 3.3 and 3.4. there are some thickness limits and position limits. these two figures, together with table 3.7 (06). other limits are listed in text of section 3
