I am a little confused regarding this code. If I get my welders qualified and certified the AWS D17.1 code does this automaticly qualify and certify them for doing Mil-Std-1595A and 2219 work?

1.  1595 is no longer in effect  It is superseeded by D17

2.  2219 is in force... However, welder performance qualifications are per D17.  Procedure qualifications are per 2219

If your contract doccuments call out for 1595 I would get a clarification by the EOR to be sure they will accept D17 welder performance quals.

If your contract doccuments call out for 2219 than welder performance qualification testing to D17 is spelled out in the text of that doccument.

The gist is... If you are working to 2219 you need to have and comply with both D17 for welder performance qualification and 2219 for everything else... You need both.

Its pretty funny. I just got done reading the Mil-Std-2219 and all references to welding are refered to the D17.1! They really need to update this and make it eaier to comply.
At the end of the day its up to the engineering authority,(customer) to dictate what you need to comply to.
