I am in the process of developing some procedures for welding ABS Grade EQ51. This material is a Quenched and Tempered steel. I am having trouble finding the proper preheat and interpass temperatures. I have to weld this material to itself, to A36, and in another application to A514 steel. I also need info on how to keep the welds from cracking and still allowing it to cool quick enough so that the toughness is not decreased too much. The A514 we have welded in the past had to be covered to eliminate cracking, but it was welded to A656 or to API 5l X70, this time it will be welded to EQ51 which is another Q&T steel. Any info will be appreciated.

I am not familiar with ABS grades of steel, but with other steels that I have welded, the steel mill that makes the product you are welding usually has the information required to weld thier products.
