ASME B31.1 says 1 1/4Cr 1/2Mo welds with less than 1/2" wall thickness do not need PWHT.

I am asking for professional advice.

In repair of a finished stationary part of a machine that dose not come under heavy load but operates @ 900 deg F.

Very small amounts of weld was deposited in areas of erosion and machined and hand worked back to original print.

Base metal varys from 1" to 3" but the weld never exceeds 3/32" in thickness, area may be 1/2 to 3 Sq Inches

Filler material was 8018B-2 and 80S-B2.

Am I correct that by virtue of B31.1 I do not need to perform a PWHT?

If the item your referring to "Stationary Part of a Machine" falls within the scope of ASME B31.1 and is a pipe I would say that the requirements do apply. With wall thickness being the thickness of the base metal.

I think some exceptions may be made for weld metal deposited thickness for repairs and buildups and attachment welds. Its worth looking up and more information may be found in the NBIC.

Thank you and Have a Nice Day
