Dear All,

if I qualify a WPS for A333 Gr6 at charpy -46c that should also qualify for API 5L X60.

Code/ Standards: ASME IX and ASME B31.3

Regards,

A333, Gr 6 is P1, Gr. 1, and API 5L X60 is P1, Gr. 2.

Since you mention CVN's the answer is "no" A333, Gr. 6 does not qualify API 5L, X60, see QW-403.5; supplementary essential variable.

Jon,

How about if API 5L X60 (and say SA-53/106) do not require impact test, can it be supported by a PQR with impact test such as above?

In my opinion, the answer is yes.

In my previous shop, I used to qualify all our WPS' with impacts (well, only those materials where many codes typically require impacts), and then used them freely on materials which did not require impacts.  This way I had all my bases covered.

I had to explain this to an auditor once or twice because he was trying to apply my impact notations while I was using the WPS for non-impact work.  It would probably be "cleaner" for me to have simply developed a second WPS but that's an after-thought.

Thanks jon. I am of the same opinion. Now I'm quite confident I am doing it right. I'll be on a trip to visit one of our "problematic" project. Regards!
