between the invertec 275 or miller 280, for pipe welding ,using 6010 rod,for root pass and 7010 rod,i decided to go wih miller cst 280, but might have a good deal on a lincoln precision tig 275. I would love to fool with welding alum.,and the tig 275 with ac /dc is the way to go, but right now my main concern is pipe welding ,so the question is can the precision tig 275 stick weld as well as the invertec 275 or miller cst 280, using 6010 rod and 7010 rod.I  understand it has more amps and better duty cycle. anyone?THANKS

If your doing root passes on pipe with SMAW you will want the machine that has the greatest arc control adjustment ability.

The Lincoln precision TIG machines I'm familliar with only have a soft/crisp selection which is difficult to get to.

You would probably be better served with a machine that has a 1-10 knob for arc-force.

Your local vendor may also be willing to demo these machines for you... bring some electrodes and push them to let you burn a few before you make your purchase.

Some inverters are notoriously fussy with E6010
