In paragraph 1.3.1, it appears clear that WPSs for FCAW need to be qualified in accordance with 5.12 or 5.13.

However paragraph 2.7.1 appears to exempt certain fillet welds from qualification per 5.13. Does this mean I can just qualify WPS per the requirements of 5.12?

Does D1.5 allow any prequalified FCAW WPSs?

My take on 1.3.1 is that FCAW must be qualified with a PQR per 5.12 or 5.13.

5.12 is used to qualify joints that are per Figs. 2.4 and 2.5. 5.13 is used to qualify "standard and non-standard joints."

2.7.1 means that if you are going to use fillets in accordance with Sec 2.7 additional (or optional) testing is not needed. It doesn't mean that FCAW fillets are pre-qualified. Some kind of PQR needs to be done to qualify them. Sec. 5.10 says that "Fillet WPSs may be written based on appropriate groove welding PQRs."

The only prequalified WPS per D1.5 is SMAW as noted in Sec 5.11.

Sentence structure and comma placement can make these codes hard to interpret but I hope this helps.
