Welder has been in storage for over a year. I rebuild carburator, cleaned filter bowl, and filled with new gas. No fire to plugs. No fire to post on distributor housing. Jumped low oil switch and got voltage to distributor housing. Removed points and condenser. Points were good. Re-installed. (May not have gapped points correctly) Turned on ignition switch and coil burnt up. What did I do wrong?

You put 12v to your mag, it fries the secondary coil. Marek Magneto offers a rebuilt mag with 1 year warranty with exchange. Or you can call AEI in Okc and pay 450 for a new one, and keep your old one once rebuilt for back up.

You are correct. I did put 12v to mag. The mag doesn't need an outside power source, correct? And the ignition switch merily grounds the mag to stop the engine, correct?
