Just picked up a new XMT 350 Mpa to weld 1/4 fillets on 1/4 304. Does anyone have some suggested pulsing settings using .045 316L and 98ar/02Co2 =Ted

That baby ought to have factory suggested settings for synergic pulsation @ your thickness.

Look to your owners Manual (pages 30 and 31)
http://millerwelds.com/om/o231242b_mil.pdf

You will probably not see any difference between 308 and 316 fillers as far as arc performance so you can start your trials with the settings for 308 if they don't have 316 in the pre-sets.

For fillets on 1/4 inch in the flat or horizontal fillet positon you could run anyplace between 250 and 500 inches per minute depending on what fitup and production factors you have.... The lower end of the spectrum will allow more "think time" for manual welders getting up to speed.

It should make beautiful welds........ If not let us know.

Hey Lawrence, maybe it was hidden in the Greek but I didn't see any settings. The parts are 4&5" channel with some 11ga butted against the channel. I will be welding at the edge of the flanges so I will need more think time in that area. In addition there are also some 1/8 fillets on the 11ga- Ted

Hey Lawrence, Finally got it figured out with a couple of calls to my Miller rep. BUT I can't get any decent looking welds. I've got TO much experiance with E71T1 and E70C-6M H4 (Metaloy Vantage) welding to MIL-STD 278 so I know what I would like my SS to look like. Is this possible with pulse? And how about the bottom end, can it be made to look like GTAW? Thanks - Ted

Er.

Truth be told I don't have great pulse experience with XMT, and the experience I have is with older unites with D60M feeders which never pulsed well.

My 350P will pulse 21 gauge fillets without burn thru using 0.045 wire and the XMT really ought to do as well with its pre programmed settings.

Thicker material ought to be a snap... especially horizontal  and overhead fillets. The verts take a bit of practice.

Say more about how your welds are comming out and what you don't like about em.

More tweaking today and a new 22A wire feeder and I feel a lot better now. Welds are looking much better although I'm being told they'll never look as sweat as MC. Thanks Lawrence
