Anyone out there seeing more iron contamination on the surfaces of the
base material versus 5 or more years ago?
We get material from suppliers and mills from all over the world.
Most is structural tube and plate. The worst contamination is found
in bars that have been slit from plate or coils.
We pickel and passivate for various reasons, but one is to remove the
iron contamination on the surface.
Anyone sharing similiar circumstances, please comment, especially in
regard to surface treatments. We use the ferroxyl test to determine
passivity.
