Hello every body,

I'm working as project engineer in a Fertilizer plant. Teeth of a gear (worm wheel) have been damaged, and we want to make new teeth with weld buit-up followed by machining. My question is which electrode to be used for this purpose.

I have searched ASME Section II part C, ASME Sec IX, AWS welding hand book, ASM Metal hand book but couldn't find anything regarding welding of C86300 (CDA 863). We are considering to used ECuAl-D or ECuNiMnAl for this purpose. Are we right?

Can anyone help us out of this problem? Why this copper alloy (C86300) is not listed in ASME, AWS hand books?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards,

Mubashar

Darren,

Thanks for the useful link, but that doesn't help on selection of welding / surfacing electrodes. I have selected Aluminum bronze electrode (ECuAl-D) for surfacing Manganese bronze casting as I cannot find any manganese broze based electrode for this purpose. Any suggestions?

We have used ECuAl-A2 for GMAW with 300 F minimum preheat on pump impellers.  PWHT after welding at 725-825 F.

MBSims,

What is the materials of your pump impellers? C86300?
