Does anyone have experience with welding this material? Type of electrode, process,  preheat etc. We have a supplier with several small cracks. I suspect lack of preheat.

I have no experience with that material so I can't say and I mean no disrespect in this but-  would not the Army already have the welding procedures you need?

The army actually has a tendancy to subcontract armor work, as well as the weld procedures.  Dont have much experience with it but I know  it warps and pulls like a bull that just got hit in the nuts with a snowball.

You had a post in the metallurgy section on same topic and I posted the link below.

Sounds like you may be dealing with BAE out of Berthud CO.

You could be dealing with the type of armor that does require a certain amount of preheat and is prone to cracking on short stitch welds, tack welds or in areas where the cooling rate is to quick.  Are the cracks in the weld or in the base material? Some armors do require preheat and some do not.  They are usually welded with a low hydrogen undermatched filler.  We use a low hydrogen flux cored wire on our armor. Do you know how the plate manufacture recomends this stuff to be welded?

You need to discuss welding requirements and related problems directly with the steel manufacturer.
