Up Topic Welding Industry / General Welding Discussion / multiple welds with one thermal couple for PWHT

Does any one know what/if the code requirement is for thermal couples when PWHT butt welds. example: can a shop "split" one lead 3 ways and then use one thermal couple on one weld to chart those 3 welds? If possible please reference code.I do know some client specs do not allow this type of set up, just wondering if there is a code restriction.

Thanks

You need to tell "US" what code. But in general code requirements for thermalcouple placement on assmeblies is either very liberal and vague, or non existent. And for good reason. The possible assembly configurations is essentially infinite. Code requirements on exact thermal couple placement would most likel create more confusion that it resolved. It is generally up to that good old fashioned "Sound Engineering Judgment" to determine where to place them.
