I have a laser welding application that involves joining platinum and nickel together.  The mixing between the two material looks very good in the weld zone and the heat affected zone is relatively small.  I'm trying to understand what problems might occur long term (many years) with this alloy system.  The product will only see typical indoor conditions (relatively low humidity, air conditioned).  Any insight would be appreciated.

Pt-Ni is a complete solid-solution system and does not have any low temperature decompostions over time.  You should not see any effect of time on these welds.
