Hi Guys

I recently got into car restoration. Own a '66 Ford Mustang and I'm about to do some soldering.
I've been a weldor for some 17yrs.
Retired now and haven't touch a welding rod for some yrs. But I haven't forgot how too.

O.K. here's what I'm CONFUSED about. Just what is; LEAD FREE SODLER?

I know that the other body solder is: 30/70 %  Meaning 30%TIN & 70%LEAN.

IS WHAT'S WITH THE 'LEAD FREE' if its Lead Free than how could they say; " LEAD FREE ? ? ?

Need help on this one guys.

THANK YOU
GOD BLESS

Schooner

This may be a good summary for you on this topic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solder

Some of the big things that we are going to relive in my opinion with lead-free is "Tin Wiskering".  There are a few companies that have taken up some strong testing iniatives to test for this, but we all know alot wont. Since this phenomenon is not fully understood one thing we can almost see to happen again is premature failure of items due to short circuiting. Either way, check the link above, and the above statements is just my rant.

Hope this was helpful!
