Hello trogs109, if you have a specific geographical area in mind you might consider trying to contact the closest AWS section to that area. There are likely many different folks that you could contact that might be able to direct you to someone who is looking to hire an individual with your qualifications. Even if they don't know of anyone, they may be able to direct you to someone else who does have the necessary information to help you out. Most of the various sections have a very broad cross-section of members, ranging from welders, inspectors, and QC people, to owners, supervisors, and any number of other types of positioned individuals in the industry. I believe that if you get onto the main AWS site you will be able to make the necessary contacts to start conversations with these folks. Best regards, aevald

  Hi eavald
Thanks for the reply. I just joined this site so i have not had too much time to look around, are there links on here to all the different aws areas?. Not too sure of preferred areas really as I have only visited 4 states in the U.S But I would be happy to be working any of them. Also my qualifications are C.S.W.I.P for the W/I,  and pcn for ndt. What's the prefered certification body there
         thanks

Hello trogs, I am not very versed in the necessary types of qualifications for inspection folks as many others on the site here so I can't answer that question very accurately. I believe that the AWS CWI designation is one of the most prevalent with respect to general welding inspection, I am not sure about the specifics for ndt testing. As far as links go try the main site: www.aws.org, you should be able to navigate through there to locate some of the section links you're asking about.
I just went to the main site, along the top there are a number of headings, one of them is called committees & sections, click on this heading and it will give you all of the sections that are listed with AWS so you can pick and choose from there to see where you can start looking and what might be appealing. I am hoping some of the inspection folks can help you out regarding your current qualifications and those that might be similar to the U.S. versions. Stay tuned, I'm sure they will pick-up on this thread and start giving you some better and more specific information. Best regards, aevald

NDE certification is often done through the employer anyway, so you may not be able to carry yours with you (but you can list them on a resume to look impressive).  I believe AWS has a reciprocity agreement with TWI over CSWIP vs. CWI; you might be able to get out of taking the exam.  (But don't take my word for it.)

If you have your pcn TOFD ticket go to Houston. RTD has a lab there, as do some other Euro based companies. Best thing to do is go with what and who you know already and expand from there.

trogs, I'm sure you wouldn't have any problem finding work (I would suggest Houston, Texas area) BUT what hasn't been addressed is the work permit.  You will need to find an employer who would sponsor your work permit (authorisation to work in the USA).  It can be a lengthy and expensive process doing it on your own.  My wife is from New Zealand and when she came here, it took us about 9 months for her to get authorisation.  Employers are usually able to push these issues through much quicker.

Possibly as an alternate, I believe a UK citizen can easily obtain work permits in Canada?  I know there are parts of Canada that are screaming for QA/QC, NDT hands now?  This might be a "stepping stone."  Good luck!  By the way, AWS does have reciprocity with CSWIP.

Yes they do.
But a EWT diploma is not issued by CSWIP, but by EWF -European Welding Federation.

Take care not to get confused with AWS/CSWIP;

EWS - European Welding Specialist
EWT - European Welding Technologist
EWE - European Welding Engineer

They are administrated by EWF

3.1 Inspector; are you posting in the right thread?  I saw your discussion of EWT diploma in another thread but this post the originator says: "Also my qualifications are C.S.W.I.P" and I thought good advice was given all around.

Just unsure of what your response actually relates to in this particular thread?

Hi Jon,
I was wondering the same thing.
Nobody is mentioning anything to do with EWT but it keeps popping up.
Cheers,
Shane

Call RTD in Houston, or follow through with rigzone.com ndt.org, etc, or check into alberta Canada. I can't see you having a problem jumping the pond with those certs.
