Hey cyrus, I have a 400 but I set it on DH and haven't tried the other mode. I'm doing some 4" tomorrow so I'll switch it over to see what happens. I only have about 65 hrs on it without it skipping a beat- Ted

Apperently the only differance is that the range goes to 500 amps instead of 300. One doesn't need anything over 200 amps when DH pipe welding. Also the settings change on the remote. On the DH setting "4" on the remote will run a 1/8. On 500 amp setting "4" smokes the coating real quick.

I have a 305 G with the downhill pipe setting. It actually works pretty good. I usually set it about +2 and about 95 amps for stringers on 2 3/8 works pretty well. It does take some getting used to though. tends to toenail more on downhill mode.
